Chelsea: Thiago Silva's wife Belle Silva apologises after calling for changes at club
Thiago Silva joined Chelsea from PSG where he was the club’s longest serving captain

Belle Silva, the wife of Chelsea defender Thiago, has apologised after appearing to criticise Blues manager Mauricio Pochettino and calling for changes at the club.

At the end of the game Belle posted on X: “It’s time to change. If you wait any longer it will be too late.”

Pochettino has said he had spoken to Silva since his wife’s comment.

“I’m sorry that my personal outburst as a passionate Chelsea fan has caused such an impact,” Belle wrote in a new post on X on Wednesday. “I’m passionate about the team, I thrive on victories and I’m saddened by defeats.

“We all want the same thing, a winning team, come on Chelsea.”

The Wolves defeat came four days after a 4-1 loss at Liverpool and pressure is mounting on Pochettino after just nine wins in the Premier League this season, though they are through to the EFL Cup final where they will face the Reds again.

They play Aston Villa in a fourth round FA Cup replay on Wednesday night.

Speaking on Tuesday, Pochettino, who was appointed Chelsea boss in July 2023, said he “received a very good text” from the club’s owners after Sunday’s game.

He also defended his relationship with Brazilian centre-back Silva, 39, who has been at the club since joining on a free transfer in August 2020.

“He came to talk with me. The important thing is he came and wanted to talk with me,” Pochettino added.

“We are very strong in the way we want to operate. We talked and I don’t want to divulge, it was private. It [my relationship with Silva] is very good.”

Shortly before former Chelsea boss Graham Potter was sacked last year Belle Silva liked a tweet which called the Englishman a “deadbeat” manager who “doesn’t know what he is doing”.

Former Chelsea striker Chris Sutton said her post on Sunday “does not the help situation”.

“It is absolutely ridiculous,” he said on Radio 5 Live’s Monday Night Club. “It is something the club and Pochettino doesn’t need.

“He has had a poor season. The team has had a poor season. It is not going to help the situation.”
