Balogun Mumini of Yorubaland, Adesokan buried amid tears in Ibadan

The remains of Balogun Mumini of Yorubaland, Alhaji Rasheed Adesokan, have been buried.

DAILY POST learnt that the retired captain died on Saturday.

Adesokan was the Baale of Bodija in Ibadan and at the same time, Director General of Centre for Islamic Information and Youth Development in Ibadan.

DAILY POST reports that the deceased has been buried.

Our correspondent learnt that the Janazah prayer for the deceased was held at UCH Central Mosque on Sunday.

The remains of the deceased were then moved to Eternal Home Cemetery, located along the Ibadan-Oyo Road, Motunde village in Oyo state where he was buried.

He was buried amidst tears.

The burial of the deceased was attended by members of his family, friends and Islamic clerics cut across Ibadan and other areas.

Dabiri-Erewa, MMPN, UCH Muslim community react

Meanwhile, some of the notable personalities and organisations have described the death of the deceased as a great loss to the Muslim community and humanity in general.

Chairman/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa described the death of the deceased as a great loss.

Dabiri-Erewa in a message sent to the family of the deceased in Ibadan, said the global community as well as the Muslim community in Nigeria will miss the wisdom and counsel of the late community leader.

She said, “It is indeed sad and painful that Nigeria will lose such a good man when the country needed his words of wisdom more during this challenging period.

“May Allah be with the family and the community he left behind, forgive his shortcomings and reward him with al-janah firdaus”.

The Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria (MMPN) in its own reaction, described the deceased as a role model, mentor and philanthropist of note.

MMPN made this disclosure via a statement signed by its National President, Abdur-Rahman Balogun.

Balogun in the statement made available to DAILY POST on Sunday, said the late Islamic leader was one of the founding mentors of MMPN in 1994/95.

He said, “Not only that, Adesokan since 1985 started sponsoring various Islamic programmes in the Media both print and broadcast as well as publication of many islamic books, pamphlets and Yusuf Alli-English translated copies of Holy Qur’an for free distribution across the country.

“Till he breathed his last on Saturday March 25 at UCH ibadan at the age of 75 years, the Director-General of Centre for Islamic Information and Youth Development holds youth mentoring programmes in his house every Sunday since 1992.

The Muslim community at University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan in its own tribute noted that the deceased was one of the major contributors to the building of the central mosque.

They described the deceased as a great philanthropist.

Chairman, UCH Muslim Community, Dr. Abbas Abdus-salam, made this disclosure via a statement obtained by DAILY POST.

Abdus-salam, said that the deceased was the biggest contributor to the building of the UCH mosque.

He said “This is to announce the death of one of the greatest Muslim Philanthropists of our generation, the biggest individual contributor to the building of the UCH Mosque, the Baale of Bódìjà, Balogun Mumini of Oyo State and former Director of the Centre for Islamic Information, Alhaji Omoba Baale Rasheed Adesokan”.
