Finidi recently took the reins of the Super Eagles in friendly matches against Ghana and Mali. The team secured a 2-1 victory over Ghana but suffered a setback with a 2-0 defeat against Mali.
Adepoju highlighted the Super Eagles assistant coach’s early stats in hi interim head coach role is a promising start.
“With only two games under his (Finidi’s) belt, his record of one win and one loss is not bad at all,” Mutiu told Flashscore.
“He has a lot of room for improvement. I firmly believe that these Super Eagles will prosper under his leadership if he gets the job.”
Adepoju also cautioned against making premature judgments based solely on the Mali defeat.
“It would be a serious mistake to judge Finidi solely on our defeat against Mali. When José Peseiro was the coach of the Super Eagles, did he win every game? Finidi deserves our trust so that he can cultivate the confidence necessary to build on our current base.”
With the NFF expected to announce the new head coach for the Super Eagles next month, Adepoju’s endorsement adds to the growing support for Finidi George to lead the team forward.
