1 dead, 1 in hospital following shooting in Alberta hamlet - Calgary

EDITOR’S NOTE: An earlier version of this story placed Langdon west of Calgary. It is east of Calgary. We regret the error.

The RCMP says its major crimes unit is investigating a drive-by shooting in Langdon, Alta., that left a 36-year-old man dead and a woman injured.

They said the victims were targeted. While police did not say if they had identified a suspect or suspects, they said the public is not considered to be at risk.

RCMP officers were called to the hamlet east of Calgary on Friday after receiving reports of shots being fired.

Police said people reported hearing gunshots at around 4:30 p.m., along Boulder Creek Way.

They originally said an adult male and an adult female were possibly injured in the incident.

AHS EMS confirmed there were two victims in their 30s. They said one of the victims had died and that a woman suffered two to three gunshot wounds and was transported to a Calgary hospital, but added that her condition was not known.

STARS Air Ambulance was dispatched to the area shortly after the call came in and its helicopter was seen in a Langdon neighbourhood.

Langdon is located approximately 18 km east of Calgary.
