2023 Presidency: I Became Successful Against All Odds - Atiku

Hoodlums suspected to be from an opposition party on Monday reportedly attacked the venue scheduled for the Presidential rally of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Atiku Abubakar, in Kaduna.

In a post via his verified Twitter handle, the former Nigerian lawmaker and a chieftain of the PDP, Sen. Shehu Sani, revealed that the Wazirin Adamawa was denied access to the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna today for his campaign rally which made him opt for an alternative venue.

Sani who said hoodlums attacked the new venue with swords and machetes, said the PDP candidate later got approval to use the venue after he had secured an alternative.

The former lawmaker tweeted: “Thugs just invade the Atiku Rally venue in Kaduna with swords and machetes.

It’s a fact that PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar was denied the use of Ahmadu Bello Stadium Kaduna for his campaign rally. Deceptively and belatedly approved only when an alternative arrangement has been made.”

PDP has been asked to apologize to Nigerians over a controversial statement by Atiku over the weekend.

Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, made the call in a statement released on Monday, Naija News reports.

Recall that the former Vice President, while addressing northern stakeholders in Kaduna on Saturday, said the north does not need Yoruba or Igbo candidates when it comes to the presidency.

The PDP presidential candidate further stated that the only presidential candidate worthy of taking over the seat in 2023 is him.

“I know the whole of this country. I have built bridges across this country. I think what the average northerner needs are somebody who is from the north, who also understands the other parts of Nigeria, and who has been able to build bridges across the rest of the country.

“This is what the northerner needs. He (the northerner) doesn’t need a Yoruba candidate or an Igbo candidate. This is what the northerner needs. I stand before you as a pan-Nigerian of northern origin,” Atiku said in Kaduna.

Reacting to the viral statement, Governor Wike on Monday said he doubts that Atiku would make such a statement at this critical time in the country, he added that such a comment would justify his fight for equity, justice, and fairness in the PDP.

The PDP chieftain called on the leadership of the party to urgently address the issue and appeal to Nigerians. He warned that the main opposition party might lose the support of Nigerians if it fails to act.

Wike added that Nigerians might begin to see PDP as a party where justice and equity do not abound.
