Security forces deployed to the northeast have repelled an attack launched by the Islamic State West African Province (ISWAP) terrorists on a police outpost in Jakana, Kaga Local Government, Borno State.

Sources told Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency expert and security analyst in Lake Chad region that the terrorists reportedly infiltrated the town at about 2.30am with their General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) and began shooting sporadically at the police.

The sources said that the police stationed at the unit swiftly responded, resulting in a heavy gun battle with the troops deployed to protect the community which lasted for about 30 minutes.

It was also gathered that troops of 29 Task Force Brigade were dispatched to the scene where they assisted the police in fierce repulsion, thus overwhelming the invading terrorists, forcing them to flee.

The troops were said to have chased the fleeing terrorists towards their withdrawal route and recovered a bullet proof vest and two magazines.

Sources, however, said no casualty was recorded in the attack.
