Nottingham Forest vs Newcastle - Premier League: TV channel, team news, lineups & prediction

This week’s Premier League action will kick off with Newcastle’s trip to Nottingham Forest on Friday evening.

Forest are unbeaten at home in the Premier League in over five months and have ridden that wave up to 14th in the table, although the battle to avoid the drop is so tight that one wrong set of results could see Steve Cooper’s side drop back into the bottom three.

At the other end of the standings, Newcastle are looking to keep their European push alive but must address their away hoodoo which has seen them win just once on enemy turf in 2023.

Here’s all you need to know about this one.

Nottingham Forest team news

Brennan Johnson and Chris Wood were both injured last time out, while backup goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey also pulled up in the warm-up, adding to the significant fitness problems at the City Ground.

Dean Henderson, Taiwo Awoniyi, Willy Boly, Scott McKenna, Omar Richards and Giulian Biancone are all out, and there are doubts over Gustavo Scarpa after he was allowed to return to Brazil to deal with a personal issue.

Midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate is back in training and could be involved.

(4-3-2-1): Navas; Aurier, Worrall, Felipe, Lodi; Yates, Shelvey, Freuler; Lingard, Gibbs-White; Dennis

Newcastle team news

Anthony Gordon has been ruled out with an ankle problem, with the winter signing joining Emil Krafth on the sidelines.

This will be the last game without the suspended Joelinton, while manager Eddie Howe has banished Ryan Fraser to the reserves.

(4-3-3): Pope; Trippier, Botman, Schar, Burn; Longstaff, Guimaraes, Willock; Almiron, Isak, Saint-Maximin

Forest have been excellent at home and will fancy their chances of extending Newcastle’s woes on the road, but their ever-mounting list of injuries could be too much to overcome.

Johnson and Wood’s potential absences could leave Forest a little toothless in attack, and even though Newcastle’s defence isn’t what it was earlier this season, the home side will struggle to find a way through.

That should set Newcastle up for a comfortable victory on Friday.

Prediction: Nottingham Forest 0-2 Newcastle
