The Resident Electoral Commissioner in Cross River State, Prof Gabriel Yomeri, has stated that one of the Independent National Electoral Commission( INEC) ad hoc staff, Glory Effiom Essien, who was shot by a suspected militant is now recuperating at a University of Calabar Teaching Hospital.

The victim was reportedly shot from behind while traveling on a speed boat to Bakassi communities for electoral duties.

The REC expressed worry and anger over the shooting of the young woman.

However, he expressed gratitude that the bullet did not affect the young lady’s spinal cord.

The victim is responding to medical attention at the University of Calabar, UCTH.”

An eyewitness had said, “The stray bullet hit her while she was in a speed boat heading towards Bakassi communities for governorship and House of Assembly Elections. She had slumped before being rushed to a hospital.


“She was hit from behind inside the speed boat she boarded. She became unconscious.”
