The African Democratic Congress (ADC), has joined millions of Nigerians to felicitate with Gen. Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (rtd.), former Military President of Nigeria, on his 81st birthday.

Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, the ADC Global Campaign Director-General, in a statement issued in Kaduna on Thursday, stated that General Babangida is a passionate believer in the organic links between generations in Nigeria.

According to the statement, “The ADC particularly wishes to congratulate General Babangida on attaining the Golden age and to thank God Almighty for sparing his life with his inspiring presence amongst us to keep the flames of our dedication to the interests of the people of the North and Nigeria alive.”

The party explained that it was important to place on record that General Babangida’s leadership, sacrifice, statesmanship, patriotism and unwavering commitment to the interests of the people of Northern Nigeria and citizens of Nigeria as a whole, had few parallels in the country.

It said that the ADC, as a new generation political party, would always remember Babangida as the first Nigerian leader to inspire new breed politics and will continue to draw inspiration from the life and works of the General and that Nigerian youths must strive, in all they do, to live by the personal and social values and standards he lives and set for himself as citizen, subject, and leader.

It described General Babangida as a great statesman, mentor, guardian, living history and an embodiment of all the exemplary qualities young Nigerians should strive to achieve, saying that he is always available for young people.

It added that it is no exaggeration to say that his life holds much promise in keeping the youth focused and disciplined in the pursuit of edifying goals and living with values that define the Nigerian character.
