Nigeria’s women’s national U-20 football team, the Falconets, emerged victorious against Tanzania with a 2-1 win in the second leg, second-round qualifier match held at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja on Sunday.
The victory, coupled with a 1-1 draw in the first leg, propelled the Falconets to a 3-2 aggregate triumph.
Janet Akekoromowei got a crucial goal after 16 minutes, capitalizing on an intelligent pass from Taiwo Afolabi.
However, an unexpected turn of events saw Tanzania equalize five minutes later, as goalkeeper Shukura Bakare’s error allowed Jamila Mnunduka to find the net.
The decisive moment arrived on the hour mark when defender Comfort Folorunsho broke the deadlock with a powerful header from Afolabi’s cross, securing a 2-1 victory for the Falconets.
They are now set to face Burundi in a crucial match to determine one of Africa’s representatives at the 2024 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia.
