Bayelsa Assembly poll: PDP wins 9 seats, as Chief whip loses

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has declared the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, winners of nine seats, while the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, and All Progressives Congress, APC, each won two seats, while collation is ongoing in the remaining eleven constituencies in Bayelsa State.

The Chief whip of the state’s House of Assembly, Hon. Ebiuwou Koku Obiyai, who scored 4, 593 votes lost her Yenagoa Constituency 2 seat to Hon. Waikumo Amakoromo, of APGA, who polled 4,971 in one of the PDP strongholds in the state.

The returning officer, Prof Joy Ekeke, while announcing the results added that the APC candidate, Izontimi Steven Bulo, came a distant third with 861 votes.

DAILY POST learnt that the upset pulled by the winner was as a result of the political revolution of the people of the grassroots that vowed to unseat the two-term lawmaker whose performance in the last eight years have been poorly rated.

Also, Hon. Oteigbanyo George-Braah, APGA, was declared the winner of Nembe Constituency 1, in the election whose results were declared at the King Koko Square collation centre in Ogbolomabiri, community the constituency headquarters.

The INEC Returning Officer, Mr. Okechukwu Okeke, said that George-Braah polled a total of 2,928 votes to defeat his closest opponent, the incumbent lawmaker, Hon. Ebi Ben-Ololo.

Giving a further rundown of the figures, Okeke announced that Ben-Ololo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who is running for a third term in office polled 2,356 votes, while Kenneth Standfast of the All Progressives Congress (APC) scored 485 votes.

With the winning by the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Nembe Constituency 2, it means the PDP has no representatives in the assembly for the first time in history of the Nembe LGA.

Declaring the results, Returning Officer, for Nembe Constituency 2, Dr John Chika Onwuchekwa, announced that Hon. Edward Irigha Brigidi, of the APC won the election with a total of 1,651 votes, to beat Joe Francis, of AA and Amiefamonyo Fredrick of ADC who scored 16 votes each.

While in Nembe Constituency 3, Hon. Douglas Sampson, of the APC, was declared winner with 1,367 votes to defeat Hon. West Alalibo of PDP, who got 461.

The returning officer, Prof. Apuega Arikawei, also said Ide Bridget Meranini, of the Labour Party, polled 12 votes.

Other winners include the Speaker of the House, Hon. Ingobere Abraham, PDP, in Brass Constituency 3, who got 5, 973 votes to beat Hon. Yousuo Oberiakuma of the APC, who got 981, and Daniel Otaribara, SDP, who polled 253.

In Brass Constituency 1, the incumbent lawmaker, Hon. Charles Daniel, PDP, was declared winner with 4,116 votes to defeat the APC candidate who got 1, 552 votes.

Also in Ekeremor Constituency 1, Hon. Tare Porri of the PDP, was declared winner with a total score of 4,216 votes, while his closest rival Dumbo Selena Yokoro of APC got 1,562, and Gita Matthew , SDP, polled 973 votes.

In Ekeremor Constituency 2, the Returning Officer, Mr Smart Tunubu, declared the PDP candidate, Hon. Mitin Living Ebibaekebena, who scored 9,067, the winner over Olorogun Kennedy, APC, who got 2,800, while Awolowo Randy of SDP scored 1,047.

In Kolokuma/Opokuma Constituency I, the PDP candidate, Hon. Werinipre Pamoh, was declared winner, with 7,536, to defeat Appah Suoyo Kelvin, of APGA, who scored 1,474, and Duabofa Duopamo of APC who got 1,314 votes.

In Constituency 2, the incumbent lawmaker, Hon. Fafi Wisdom, PDP, won with 6708 votes. The the runner up, Isowo Priebi Cross of APC got 3362 votes.

The incumbent lawmaker of Sagbama Constituency I, Hon. Oyinke Godbless Nanatumieyeseigha of PDP, was declared winner with a total of 9,633 votes. Also, the PDP candidate in Sagbama Constituency 3, Cockeve Brown Ebizi Rosemary, was declared the winner with 6,462 votes.

In Yenagoa Constituency 3, Hon. Elemeforo Teddy Tonbara, PDP, was declared the winner with 4, 206 votes.
