Antoine Griezmann's horse finishes third on UK debut in Newcastle - two places behind runner owned by super agent Kia Joorabchian

Antoine Griezmann’s horse made its UK debut on Friday and finished third at Newcastle.

His horse, named Hooking, placed in the All-Weather Easter Classic Middle Distance Handicap after being given odds of just 14-1 before the race at Gosforth Park.

However Hooking was beaten by Elegant Man – a horse owned by super agent Kia Joorabchian and the King Power-owned Sun Racing.

Griezmann is an avid fan of horse racing and has stepped up his interest as a trainer.

Hooking was the first horse to join the French star’s portfolio and has run in 39 races in his career so far.

In that time, he has earned Griezmann an impressive £275,000.

Victory at Gosforth Park on Good Friday would have seen Griezmann pocket an additional £100,000 in prize money, however that money will instead go to super agent Kia Joorabchian.

Griezmann’s foray into horse racing could be a sign of things to come as he moves into the final years of his playing career.

The forward is now 33 which means that he could be looking at the prospect of hanging up his boots within the next few years.

That said, if his form for Atletico Madrid is anything to go by he’ll be hoping to stick around for some time yet having scored 19 goals and offered seven assists for Diego Simeone’s side this term.

He’ll also be hoping to guide France to glory in this summer’s Euro 2024 competition.
